An individual who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.

She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.

She said the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
